How to Figure Out That It Is Time To Quit Your Job and Become An Entrepreneur!

The Benefits of Quitting Your Job and Becoming an Entrepreneur

It’s 7 AM again. You have to get up and go to work.  You tap the snooze button on your alarm.  “Just 10 more minutes and I’ll be ready to face reality.”

10 minutes pass and you don’t move. You think, “10 more minutes wouldn’t hurt right?”

Now, it’s 7:30 and you have 30 minutes to make yourself look presentable and get out the door.  As you’re driving to work, you’re already counting the hours till you’re off.  You start thinking about what you’re going to eat for dinner and how you’re going to spend your Thursday night.

After you pulled into the parking lot and parked your car in the usual spot, you can’t make yourself get out.  Your legs feel cemented to the floor.  You don’t want to go in.

It’s 8:31.  You slowly open the car door and get out.  You walk inside, sit at your desk, turn the computer on, and watch as the system starts up. You type in your username and password at 8:35.  “Now, I’m at work” and the thought makes you sick.  You open a browser and type How to Become an Entrepreneur.  You start reading…

Imagine not having to clock in when you go to work.  Being able to do what you want when you wanted to do it.  Imagine liking what you do for a living.  Well those are the benefits of becoming an entrepreneur.

Should you quit your job?

Before you make any rash decisions.  Let’s think this through.  Many people toy with the idea of quitting their jobs without actually making any final decisions.  They get stuck in a cycle of dreading the drive to work, working through eight hours, and going home to only go back to work in the morning.  Here are three questions you should ask yourself before quitting your job:

  1. Are you happy?
  2. Is there growth?
  3. Do you feel fulfilled?

These three questions determine whether or not your job is actually a right fit for you.

The first question: “Are you happy?” seems like a simple question.  But life tends to over complicate things.  When people ask you, “Are you happy?” 99% of the time you’ll answer with a resounding “Yes” without giving your answer a second thought.  But are you really happy deep down?

If you’re not sure, make a pros and cons list.  What do you like and not like about your current job?  If most of your likes has to do with the people, the environment of the office, or money, then your job might be worth keeping.  However, if your pros are mainly centered on stability and income then you should consider leaving because money can only motivate you for so long.  Money can make your life comfortable but money won’t make you happy.  At the end of the day, if your job makes you miserable then it’s not worth keeping.

The second question: “Is there growth?” If you’re job makes you happy most of the time then move on to this second question.  Is there professional or personal growth in this job?

If the answer is “Yes” and you’re mostly happy with the job, it’ll be worth staying.

If the answer is “Yes” and you’re not happy, you might want to look at other career options that have the same growth structure.  When you go to work everyday feeling stuck like you’re standing at a dead-end then you’re miserable five days out of the week.  That’s 71% of your week spent being miserable.  Is your job worth it?

If there is no growth available, ask your-self, “Will I still be happy with the same position in five years?”  If the answer is “Yes” then stay at your job but if your answer is “No” start looking at other opportunities.

The third question: “Do you feel fulfilled?” This might be the most important question out of the three.  Will you regret staying at this job in 10, 20, or 30 years?  Will you feel empty knowing that you’ve given up on a lot of your dreams and aspirations?

When you were young, you dreamed about changing the world, making it a better place, and standing up for what was right.  Now, all you do is write emails and make phone calls.  Do you regret taking this job?  Do you regret giving up on your dreams for a more traditional and stable job?

If you answered, “Yes” to any of those questions then you need to quit.  Don’t wait till you’re on your deathbed to regret what you’ve done with your life.  Start making changes now.

If you feel fulfilled and happy then stay at your job.  If you feel dissatisfied, empty, and disappointed at what you’ve done with your life so far then move on.  Having a purpose in life will make you happier.  It gives you a reason to get up every morning when the alarm rings.  It fills your life with passion and goals because you have something to work towards.

What are the benefits?

Quitting your job and starting a new career is a risk.  But it can be liberating and a step in the right direction.  Becoming an entrepreneur will give you freedom such as making your own hours, creating your own rules, and hiring people you want to work with.  You make all the decisions.

When you make your own hours you can work when you want to and not when someone tells you to.  If you want to take a vacation, you can buy a ticket and go. You don’t have to ask for leave or make sure the vacation days are available.  You can pack your bags today and be on your way tomorrow.

Entrepreneurs are their own bosses.  When you become your own boss you make your own rules and build a company around your own set of ethics.  You make the final decisions and you hire the people you want to work with.

When you’re an entrepreneur the company is yours with that you have a relentless passion and determination to see that it succeeds.  You work harder because you’re working for yourself. It’s your company and you won’t let it fail.

In many jobs, employees clock in and out without any regard for the company’s success because they see themselves only as working ants doing menial tasks throughout the day.  Their job holds no meaning for them.  These employees simply don’t care about the company.  They have no motivation or incentive to work harder, so they spend their days checking the clocks every five minutes.

On the opposite spectrum, entrepreneurs take pride in their work and care about the company’s success. Entrepreneurs are incentive by their own goals and aspirations.  Their company gives them purpose everyday.

Entrepreneurs are happy, excited about their opportunity for growth, and feel fulfilled because they worked hard to build a company from the ground floor.  Their insane focus and single-minded passion paid off.  Every day they get off work, they can look back and see what they accomplished.  The best feeling in the world is doing something that makes you happy.  So if you’re unhappy with your job and where it’s going then take the plunge.

Henry Ford is famous for saying, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t–you’re right.”  So think YOU CAN and become an entrepreneur today.
