Everybody knows that cancer is a dreaded disease that many people have succumbed to, whether it’s breast cancer, throat cancer, cervical cancer, skin cancer, prostate cancer, or something else.

Although there is not yet a cure for cancer, you can limit your risk of getting cancer in the first place by making some simple life changes. There are some conflicting studies on how to prevent cancer, but one sure way you can lower the risk is by critically analyzing what you eat and your general lifestyle. Many types of cancer have been found to be caused by what we eat and our way of living.

At least 13,000 deaths are caused by cancer every year, and these different types of cancer have been related to alcohol consumption, smoking, poor diet, and exposure to sun rays between 10 am and 3 pm.

The following are the seven ways to reduce the risk of cancer that doctors don’t focus on enough!

Quit Smoking

Both passive and active smokers put themselves at a risk of developing cancer. Smoking has been identified as the primary cause of lung cancer, kidney cancer, throat cancer, and cancer of the pancreas. Passive smokers, also known as second-hand smokers who breathe in the smoke from smokers, also put themselves at a dangerous risk of getting lung cancer.

Quitting cigarette smoking or staying away from people who are smoking is one sure option to help you avoid cancer.

Avoid Multiple Sexual Partners

This is yet another proven way of lowering your risk of cancer. Having multiple sexual partners puts you at a risk of some sexually-transmitted diseases such as Human Papillomavirus (HPV). HPV increases your risk of developing genital and cervical cancer. It can also lead to an increase in squamous cells that can cause neck and head cancer.

Get Regular Medical Check-Ups

Plan to see your doctor at least once a year to see whether you are at a risk of any form of cancer. Your doctor is the best person to talk to about any symptoms you may be having to determine if they could be caused by cancer. They can also identify other risk factors which can lead to early detection, one of the best ways to effectively treat cancer.

Eat Healthy

Your diet is a huge part of determining your overall health. Consumption of superfoods which are high in antioxidants can also help you reduce the risk of developing cancer. These antioxidants fight against the toxins in your body that can damage cells which can lead to cancer.

Fruits and vegetables are unusually high in antioxidants, so you can quickly reduce your chances of developing cancer by including more of these in your diet.

Avoiding processed foods and those high in added sugars will also help you reduce your risk of developing cancer. Processed foods often contain harmful chemicals that can cause cancer, and cancer cells thrive on sugar, so having an excess can encourage the growth of cancer cells.

Exercise

There is more than enough evidence to prove that doing exercises will reduce your chances of developing breast cancer. This is because exercising regularly can help balance your hormones, which are often the cause of breast cancer. Regular workouts also help you maintain a healthy body weight, which is also important for avoiding cancer.

Avoid Strong Sun Rays

Scientific research done by numerous institutions has revealed a close relationship between skin cancer and sun exposure. Strong sun rays increase your risk of getting skin cancer. This kind of cancer is one of the most common according to CDC, and it primarily affects people living in areas with stronger sun rays.

Staying in the shade and avoiding sun rays between 10 a.m and 3 p.m is one easy way you can reduce your risks related to skin cancer. This is when the sun is at its highest, so be sure to protect your skin during this time. You should also get into the habit of wearing sunblock every day.

Reduce Alcohol Intake

Alcohol is known to cause some of the common cancers such as colorectal, breast, and mouth cancer. Another form of cancer caused by excessive alcohol consumption is liver cancer. This type of cancer affects the normal functioning of the liver by thinning it out until it’s no longer able to perform its basic metabolic functions.

Alcohol increases the chances of getting cancer in those people who consume it regularly. It is therefore advisable to spread out the days you drink alcohol for at least every three days. You should also reduce the amount you consume in one sitting because the amount you drink at once will also determine your risk factor for developing these types of cancer.

These are just a few of the things that you can do to reduce the chances of developing cancer. Remember that your lifestyle causes many types of cancer, and so making some simple changes such as the ones in this article can help you limit your risk of getting cancer. Although there are many other ways that people believe you can reduce your risk of getting cancer, these are the only ones that have enough proof to say they help for sure.
