It is often perceived that women would immediately get serious within a relationship – but it actually isn’t true. Asking a partner, “Where we are at?” and “Where are we headed?” is not, in its entirety, love.
On the contrary, the actual truth is, men fall in love instantly, sometimes even without asking the above mentioned questions.
A study surveyed 172 college students that resulted in finding that despite the common perception, women are NOT the ones to fall in love faster, men are.
According to the co-author of the study, Marissa Harrison said, “Women are assumed to be emotional; sometimes overly so, or rash.” “Both men and women in our study presumed that women would fall in love and say ‘I love you’ faster than men.”, she added.
According to Neil Lamont, a psychologist from London, people generally tend to see men as commitment-avoidant. “[But] meaningful relating is as important to men as it is to women. And while societal and cultural norms may have dictated that men should be strong and resilient, the reality is [that] a well-lived life for men will typically involve deep and meaningful, loving relationships.”
Marissa added, “I think women unconsciously postpone love compared to men. Women have a lot more to lose reproductively by committing to the wrong man. They are born with a finite number of eggs, yet men produce millions of sperm on a daily basis. If women commit to and get pregnant by an unworthy mate [with] no help rearing a child, that would be very costly, time- and resource-wise.”
As far as the actual act of saying “I love you,” is concerned, Neil believes men do it faster than women. “So [they] can be less likely to express such deeply felt emotions until they feel safe and secure enough in the relationship to do so. Revealing to your significant other that you love them risks vulnerability, because we can never be entirely sure they feel the same.”
This often is related to the personality traits of most men to be assertive and lead. Be the first to take the step. It is sad, but it is true.
Men are likely to take such steps first but at the same time they are also likely to quickly begin fishing around [looking for more].

Although this study did not focus on how fast men fall out of love, the primary researcher did suggest that men are most likely to move on from a break up compared to their female partners. “For example, a man could have sex with five women at the same time and they might all become pregnant, whereas a woman could have sex with five men at the [same] time and she would only become pregnant by one man,” said Marissa.
Hence, breaking the common idea – Men are the most likely to get to I LOVE YOU faster than women.
