70 Years Later, This Man Loves His Wife Like He Just Met Her

So often people dream about finding “the one,” that person who makes them feel whole, who builds them up, and who brings joy to their life. The dream is to not only to find that person but to spend the rest of their life with that person. In a world filled with divorce and unhappy couples, John and his wife have proven that true love does exist and can outlast any trial.

At a young age, John saw his wife for the first time. He knew immediately that she was the one for him. “I was a telephone engineer, and she was a telephone operator. And I saw this shapely piece walking down the switch room with her hair flowing, and I said to myself, ‘She’s the one for me.'” Shortly after that, John asked her to go on their first date.

He planned to take her to an expensive movie and enjoy some snacks with her, but she had other plans. On their way to the theater, she told John that she would instead go to a different movie that was cheaper and so they did. The first film they saw together was “Dark Corner.” Several years later, “Dark Corner” was on television and John recorded it. Now whenever there is something to celebrate, they watch it together.

At first, John’s mother did not approve of his choice. She thought that she was too skinny, but John knew that she was the one. A few short years later, John proposed and the two got married.

“My wife needs me, and I can’t possibly leave her.”

Almost 70 years after meeting his wife, John and his wife are still happily married. But, the time has also brought with it some hardships. John is suffering from heart disease and heart failure, and his wife was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease last year. Even so, John continues to love his wife. On the days that she’s lucid, he takes her on long walks where they just enjoy each other’s company.

He believes that every day with her is a blessing and he is thankful for each moment he still has with his wife. “It’s sad, but I can’t be greedy; we’ve both had a good life together,” John says.

Despite everything happening to them now, John says he would pick his wife all over again. He would happily choose her and re-live their life exactly as it happened because he knows without a doubt that they were meant for each other.

If you are wondering whether or not you will find your other half, don’t worry. Everybody has a better half, and you will find your “John” someday.
