People Who Smoke Pot Are Having 20% More Sex, Study Finds

It has a lot of names and a lot of uses – marijuana is often seen in a very negative way. However, a study completed recently has found that there is at least one benefit for people who smoke pot. Medical researchers have found that those who smoke marijuana partake in 20% more sex than those who don’t.

The results came from an analysis of over 50,000 participants over the course of thirteen years. The participants were all American and aged somewhere between twenty-five and forty-five. They were asked to detail how many times they had engaged in sex over a four-week period. They were then asked how many times they’d smoked marijuana that year. The results found that there was a definite correlation between some sexual encounters and the amount of marijuana smoked. In other words, the more people smoked pot, the more they also engaged in sexual contact.

Participants who smoked daily had sex 7.1 (women) or 6.9 (men) times on average over the four week period. In comparison, those who hadn’t smoked any marijuana that year had sex on average 6.0 times (women) or 5.6 times (men.)

Since the average amount of opportunities to have sex per week amounted to only once, the research seems to suggest that someone who smokes pot will have upwards of twenty other sexual encounters a year. Though this may not be the causation of the results, it does seem to indicate that those who smoke pot engage in a lot more sex, especially when many of the participants claimed they smoked marijuana directly before having sex.

It is now legal to smoke marijuana in twenty-nine states in America, with an impressive 64% of the population in favor of it being legalized everywhere for medical and recreational use. Marijuana has been found to have a range of health benefits. However, it has also been linked to triggering mental health problems, such as schizophrenia, when in a vulnerable individual. However, pot is one of the most widely used drugs, even in countries where it is illegal, and plenty of people reap the benefits of it. If this research is anything to go by, it’s possible it has more hidden benefits we don’t know about yet!

Despite all the positive things this research suggests, the man who conducted the analysis has made it clear that the study does not prove a definitive link between the two things.

He said on the matter ‘it doesn’t say if you smoke more marijuana, you’ll have more sex.’ Still, it’s a fun little study that plenty will find joy in.
