Valentine’s Day: Things No One Wants To See You Doing on Social Media

Valentine’s Day is here! Everyone is getting ready to spend exorbitant amounts of money on flowers, candies, and all things heart-shaped. Whether you are single or in a relationship this Valentine’s Day, it is important to remember to keep your social media like it would be on other days.

Your followers don’t want to see you wallowing in self-pity about the fact that you are single on Valentine’s Day. They also probably don’t care for your doting posts about your partner and how much you love them/they love you. As we prepare for this Hallmark holiday, here are six social media mistakes you should avoid.

1. Too Much Information (TMI)

People love you for the beautiful inspirational posts you share, the travel pictures, and your insightful wisdom about every topic under the sun. In all honesty, people also love seeing you happy with your partner but the point is, how much is too much?

When on social media, do not go beyond one picture or group of pictures to celebrate the occasion. We know you’re in the mood to love but the constant posts about what you’re up to with your partner every moment of the day is very annoying.

2. Do Not Mock Couples

Have you found yourself single on Valentine’s Day this year? Bummer.

But here is the deal: your “single” status does not give you the right to mock couples for having a great time. Tweeting or updating your status about how stupid you think Valentine’s Day is leaves you looking immature and bitter. It is also a sure-fire way to offend your friends in relationships as it will come across as a direct shot at their relationship.

3. Pity Party – Table for One

Posting about how lonely you are and how desperately you wish you had a date for Valentine’s Day won’t gain you sympathy for long, and it’s kind of personal to share on the internet, anyway.

Instead of spending Valentine’s Day alone, why not shut off your social media for the day and spend time with friends or family? Even better, make plans to celebrate with your friends by planning a “Galentine’s Day” where you and your single friends celebrate the day together.

Your followers will love to see how you celebrate your single-hood and appreciate that you are not wallowing in self-pity.

4. Bragging is Not Attractive

Did your significant other get you the perfect gift for Valentine’s Day? That is so awesome!

Just remember there is a fine line between bragging and sharing your excitement. You certainly can express how much you love your partner for getting you a necklace but, seriously, rubbing it in everyone’s face is just rude and makes you look arrogant.

Think of your single friends.

5. Social Media is No Place for Proposals

If you are considering proposing on social media, don’t.

It might seem romantic to propose on social media, but you could potentially be putting your partner in an awkward position if they weren’t ready to get engaged or their family didn’t know how serious the relationship was.

Sure, it’d be funny but yeah, not good.

6. Keep It Private

You might be tempted to plaster your partner’s social media with pictures, comments, and videos, but you might be better off sending those love notes to him or her via text message or messenger. Before tagging them in any pictures, get the okay. That way you don’t end up with a frustrated significant other.

Single or dating, Valentine’s Day is exciting and fun. This Valentine’s Day make it a point to fill your social media with your normal, routine posts. Simple, stay cool!
